MY HISTORY IN ART
I
was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, a city with many political, social and economic problems. It also offered incredible opportunities for exposure to the arts, natural sciences and architecture, as well as a large beautiful lake and many parks. As a child, I studied at the children’s art program at the Art Institute of Chicago, and made frequent visits to its exhibit halls. I also had a childhood interest in costume design, gained through exposure to the creative sets and costumes of the Goodman Theater. That interest helped to form my creative devotion to the arts. I have my parents to thank for all the Sundays spent in museums and on outdoor hikes.
After college, and a brief career in education, I discovered and studied woodworking and furniture-making. For 30-plus years I worked in this field, creating art furniture and custom woodworking of many types. After starting in New York City, I later established Miters Touch in Boone, North Carolina. During those years, I continued studying art at Appalachian State University, working in a variety of media. After retiring, I began to devote all my creative energy to fine art painting.
